Paddle Through the Orange Sea on Kingsday!

Paddle Through the Orange Sea on Kingsday!

Every year on April 27, the Netherlands turns orange. Streets fill with music, markets, games and celebrations, all in honor of the King’s birthday. What started as a national celebration of the royal family has grown into something much bigger: a day where our entire country comes together, each in their own way.

Traditionally, Kingsday (Koningsdag) was celebrated on land, in crowded streets, packed festivals, and lively city squares. But over the years, a different kind of tradition has quietly taken over the canals.

A Celebration in Motion

In cities like Amsterdam, Utrecht, and beyond, the water becomes just as alive as the streets. Boats drift through orange-filled canals, music echoes between the buildings, and people celebrate from every possible angle. Our love for water is celebrating together with us.

A Subtle Nod to Orange

At MOAI, that connection to the Netherlands is always close. From the orange details in some of our products to the signature orange “O” in our name, they’re small nods to where it all comes from.

A color that, for one day each year, takes over everything. Sometimes multiple times, depending on our sport teams...

However you celebrate, the spirit of Kingsday remains the same: freedom, connection, and a shared moment across the country. On the water, that feeling just flows a little differently.

For me personally, it’s not Kingsday without some relaxing quality time and a tompouce. 😉
