Our Story
The brand name MOAI originates from the monolithic human statues “moai’s”, created by the inhabitants of the island of Rapa Nui, also known as Easter Island. The island was discovered and settled by Polynesian adventurers and explorers who traveled the Pacific Ocean by canoe. It is believed that these statues were created by the people of Rapa Nui to worship their ancestors, the explorers of the sea.
With the brand MOAI we pay our tribute to these amazing Polynesian explorers, who loved to be on the water, travel the Pacific Ocean for thousands of kilometers, and only used the sun, the clouds, the moon, the stars and the current to guide them. Our designs are inspired by these adventurous ocean travelers.
MOAI is a brand from The Netherlands. Designed in Holland, inspired by the people of Polynesia who invented the art of paddle boarding.
As a team, we have many years of experience in the industry, in product development, retail marketing, and above all – we love stand up paddle boarding more than anything.
Family. An important keyword within our brand. Many colleagues at MOAI are also family-related. Started together with a passion, grown into a brand with a dedicated team of experts.

I am so proud of what we accomplished with our team in a really short time. MOAI grew into one of the most popular watersports brands in only a few years time! It all started out with a dream…
As a kid I grew up on the water, I come from a watersports family. I always loved the life and atmosphere around the beaches and lakes. Still do! For me it is a way to clear my head, get that holiday vibe and just relax.
I started out as an importer for dinghy boats and later for SUP boards in 2009. It was always a dream to create my own brand. In 2017 I finally did it! I started the MOAI brand with the help of my family and team. Our goal was to create a good quality brand with a great design for starters and mid level suppers.
